The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the commander of the Anambra State Vigilante Group for allegedly torturing a feminine police officer on January 12, 2022.
The police spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the arrest in Awka on Saturday.
He mentioned the Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, ordered the arrest of the suspect, whose title was not talked about, following a report of harassment and torturing of a feminine police officer on the AVG’s Awuda Nnobi safety workplace.
He described the act as cowardly and warranted members of the general public that the command was at all times prepared to guard the ladies towards violence even when the individual is just not from the safety group.
He thanked the members of the general public particularly Ndi Anambra for his or her advocacy in condemning the act and defending the feminine gender.
He mentioned, “Following a trending video on the social media exhibiting when some members of the Anambra Vigilante Group have been seen harassing and torturing a feminine of their workplace at Awuda Nnobi. The CP ordered the instant arrest of the commander and investigation has since commenced.
“The command, at the moment, needs to tell most people, particularly Ndi Anambra, that the commander of the AVG has been arrested for allegedly torturing a feminine police officer on twelfth January 2022 at Awuda Nnobi safety workplace and he’s in our custody.”
